Reading What I’ve Got

Reading Harry Potter is my only reading goal in my Things to Do in 2012. While I liked tracking what I read last year, I figured I’d just do the same thing again this year without making it an “official” goal to read a certain number of books. One reading related goal a year seemed enough but then I found this post and thought it was a brilliant idea! I don’t have as many unread books on my shelves (because we actually have very few books) but there are a few down in the basement that I haven’t read. The un-read books on my shelf are:

A Short History of Nearly Everything – Bill Bryson
An Acceptable Time -Madeleine L’Engle
Freddy the Detective – Walter R. Brooks
Freddy Goes to Florida – Walter R. Brooks
A Long Way Gone – Ishmael Beah
The Stranger – Albert Camus
Sherlock Holmes: The Complete Novels and Stories – Arthur Conan Doyle
Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes – Arthur Conan Doyle
Pillars of the Earth – Ken Follett
Fall of Giants – Ken Follett
World without End – Ken Follett
Through Black Spruce – Joseph Boyden
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil – John Berendt (Although I feel like I’ve read this, I can’t actually remember)
What the Body Remembers – Shauna Singh Baldwin
Cloud Atlas – David Mitchell

I’m not just going to read these books, but it will give me something to fall back on when I’m stuck for a reading idea. I’m starting with Cloud Atlas because that book has been sitting on my bedside table in the “read now pile” for probably over 6 months. I admit to being a little intimidated by this novel – because I have no idea what it’s actually about – which is why it has sat there for so long. But I’m going to crack the cover and I’ll find out it I think it is as indescribably wonderful as everyone seems to say!
