As of today I only have one more month of school before Christmas holidays. That’s one presentation and one major assignment to go. Hard to believe that it has already been two-ish months since I started this! In some ways it feels like forever since I was working, and other times I can’t help but feel like I’m just on a little vacation from working and any day now I’ll have to return. It’s still a bit hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that I won’t have to do that anymore.
I was thinking about last fall and how busy it was for us compared to this fall. Travel, work, more work… I can see by the large gaps in my blogging that I must have been in the field a lot. It’s much better to be home, even if Jonny hasn’t been, than to be freezing somewhere north of Fort McMurray. We’re still busy, I work every night, but I do have a little more free time than I used to. It’s nice.
The end of October marked 4 years of blogging for me. That is probably the longest I have ever kept a “journal” and it is sort of cool to look back on what I was planning in November of 2006 when I was also a student. Strange too.
The middle of November 2006 was also the first time I went to Fort McMurray. If only I’d known then how many more times I would visit I might have been less excited. I do look back somewhat fondly on my first winter field job up there, and with a little more time I’ll probably look back fondly on all my trips – time smooths out the edges on many things. Especially when you know you don’t have to do them anymore.
