I made my first trip of the summer to the farmer’s market yesterday. I love fresh produce, but it’s always so busy, and a bit out of my price range so we don’t go very often. We were there on Saturday because we needed to buy enough vegetables for pickles – mini cucumbers, carrots, onions, beans, peppers and cauliflower.

This afternoon we sliced and diced, and by this evening we had jars of dill and tangy pickles cooling on the counter.

The downstairs pantry is starting to fill up now that the pickles have joined the peach pie filling I made yesterday. I’ve got a few empty jars left and, if the apple tree has enough fruit, plans to can some apple pie filling before we put away the canning equipment for the winter.
