Wanderlust and Beach Vacations

I thought I was going to be ok this year – after last year’s trips to Kenya, Tanzania, Israel and Spain I figured I had worked off least a year worth of travel desire. After Spain, which wasn’t my favorite trip, I wanted to spend some time at home, settle in a little and stay put for a while.

But at approximately 2pm this afternoon, while sitting outside the Fort Nelson airport waiting for some equipment to arrive, I was struck with the need to be traveling. Why I don’t know, because I don’t have a travel to-do list these days, and we certainly don’t have the money but cravings aren’t always rational. Maybe it’s all the signs for the Alaska Highway (which doesn’t seem as appealing in March, but still makes me want to go on a road trip), or that I just thought of being on safari, and the beaches in Nicaragua (not just the beach but that cabbage salad the street food vendors sell also). Or the fact that in the past 30 days, I’ve worked 28 of them, and that’s just not fun. And I want fun!

Luckily for me, we’ve decided to splurge on one vacation this year, and booked a week at an all-inclusive in Punta Cana. I’ve never been on a resort vacation before so I don’t really know what to expect, and since I didn’t do any of the research for this particular trip, I’m not even sure exactly what the area has to offer. But, I hear the weather is warm, there is a beach, and I need a vacation. And, it all happens in just two weeks. Which gives me just enough time to finish this job and buy a new swim suite. Perfect.
