(that was my new favorite expression of the day – quaint, isn’t it? Even quainter when applied to purchasing drill bits)
This is Fort McMurray tonight – lovely, isn’t it? I think that’s what a lot of Alberta looks like at the end of January.
The state of Fort McMurray on a Friday night in January is not a big deal since I’m curled up on the couch with my umpteenth cup of great tea (with mandarin orange) watching What Not To Wear. You can drink tea and watch WNTW in almost any weather. As I’m sure I’ve mentioned before, we don’t have cable at home, so watching hours of mindless TV is my splurge when I’m in the field.
And I feel my splurge is well deserved after a day in the coal mines. My site today was basically a giant pile of coal dust – fine, black dust everywhere. Needless to say, I was absolutely filthy within the first 1/2 hour of work and spent the rest of the day looking like an old-fashioned chimney sweep. Very professional.
